US Marines

I finished painting my US Marine contingent and I tried out something new as part of the painting process.

Here is one of the finished figures:

At this point in the past, I would have taken the time and black lined the entire figure.

Instead, I tried out a new shading wash using a mixture of artist inks and Pledge floor wax.  Here is a photo with the shading applied:

I kind of like the shading.  It gives the figure some depth, but it also looks much more the part of a 19th century soldier.

New Small Blockhouse

I completed the small blockhouse for my War of 1812 terrain. I haven't taken any pics yet, but I will post one as soon as I can. This is a good start to the year for my 1812 stuff and I will be completing some additional units soon. I haven't been painting much lately but getting this blockhouse as well as a few WWII figures done today started the juices flowing!

New Buildings

I have completed painting some Native American buildings and a small farmhouse for my War of 1812 battlefields. I didn't do anything fancy with the paint jobs, but they came out ok.

I will try to get some photos taken this weekend and get them up on the blog.

The Figures Have Arrived!

The figures I had painted overseas arrived today! I haven't unpacked all of them yet, however, the figures I have unpacked are VERY nice! These figures will be mounted each on their own stand. The units in the Brother Against Brother (BAB) are usually about ten figures with one of the figures being an NCO or officer. I think this level of combat is going to be just right for smaller battles such as Sackett's Harbor or Beaver Dams. It will be fun to use the units in different and maybe make up a scenario of my own based in some way on one of these historical scenarios. I will have photos of these new troops up as soon as I get a chance.

War of 1812 Figures On the Way!

Just received news that my new figures for the War of 1812 skirmish scenarios are on the way! They were shipped back to me yesterday and I hope to have them within 3-4 weeks. I have seen photos of the figures as they were painted and they came out very well. I had about 120 figures painted which will give me a good set of units to chose from for different skirmish scenarios. I will post pictures of the figures as soon as they arrive.

The 2012 Plan

Well, here comes the 200th anniversary year of the War of 1812 in North America. I have been and painting Wo1812 figures for many years. I haven't counted them lately, but I think I have around 300!

The "Plan" for 2012 is to have several game night games and then a blowout game day next fall. I would like to use all of my units on that game day. I also am going to do a game or two of Brother Against Brother adapted for the War of 1812.

I have two scenarios set for the game nights. The first is Queenstown Heights and the other is Lundy's Lane. I want to do a couple more playtests of each game before I host the game night games.

I will keep you updated.

Wargaming the War of 1812

I started this blog over a year and a half ago, then I had some family issues and dropped off the face of the earth for awhile. Now I am back and the War of 1812 is coming up on its 200th anniversary. In celebration of this milestone, I will be hosting several games in the next year. The games will use the Volley & Bayonet game system in Wing Scale and a set of rules called Brother Against Brother modified for the American War of Independence and War of 1812.
